In what was a shrewd move for Colts’ GM Ryan Grigson, the team traded CB Marcus Burley to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2015 6th round pick. Burley, an undrafted free agent out of Delaware in 2013, had spent some time with the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in 2013 before being signed by the Colts this offseason. He had an impressive training camp and preseason showing with Indianapolis, but there were simply too many bodies ahead of him to warrant keeping him.
The Colts already have Vontae Davis, Greg Toler, Darius Butler, and Josh Gordy at cornerback, so it really came down to undrafted rookie free agent CB, Loucheiz Purifoy, or Burley. With Purifoy’s special teams return ability and upside, the team decided on the latter. In my 53-man projection, I had Purifoy making it over CB Marcus Burley, but GM Ryan Grigson was able to get value for Burley, rather than simply release him.
