After missing the final 10 games of last season on IR, Delano Howell’s 2014 season could be jeopardy. He’s still facing lingering neck issues and has visited multiple experts and specialists in the last two weeks, looking for answers. GM Ryan Grigson reporedly said “Howell will talk to his wife and agent,” meaning that Howell’s playing days could be over all together.
Of course, neck injuries are nothing new for Colts’ fans after seeing the Peyton Manning neck drama unfold, which eventually led to the future hall of famer leaving town not quite on his own terms. While this one lacks some of that spectacle, it still would be a significant blow to the Colts’ secondary and a very unfortunate turn of events for Delano Howell. It makes their depth that much thinner.
Here’s hoping for the best! However, if Howell is out for any significant period of time, it is likely that offseason veteran free agency acquisition Mike Adams would be the projected starter alongside LaRon Landry. While Adams isn’t quite the playmaker he used to be at 33, he’d presumably be a solidifying presence back there, having 10 prior seasons of NFL experience.
