It looks like the Colts will be without one of their starting ILB’s, as Jerrell Freeman has not practiced all week nursing a sore hamstring. As of Saturday, Freeman was nowhere to be seen around Colts’ practices according to the Indianapolis Star’s Stephen Holder.
It’ll be a pretty big loss for the defense, as Freeman is the team’s best linebacker in coverage. The Eagles are notorious for using screen and misdirection plays, featuring their explosive All-Pro RB LeSean McCoy. Additionally, the Eagles like to utilize their two talented tight ends in veteran TE Brent Celek and talented youngster Zach Ertz. Unfortunatley, the Colts likely won’t have Freeman available to cover either.
In his absence, ILB Josh McNary will be the next man up. He’s shown playmaking ability and is a physical tackler, but he’s no Freeman in coverage. It’s definitely a situation to monitor as Monday gets closer.
UPDATE: The Colts have declared starting ILB Jerrell Freeman out for Monday night’s game.
