The Colts set their practice squad today, which includes:
OT Tyler Hoover, ILB Andrew Jackson, WR Ryan Lankford, WR Josh Lenz, S Dewey McDonald, DT Nnamdi Obukwelu, CB Sheldon Price, TE Erik Swoope, G Josh Walker and QB Jeff Mathews.
It’s good to see Colts’ 6th round pick ILB Andrew Jackson on the practice squad, as he battled injury throughout preseason and never fully got to showcase his talents in what was a crowded linebacker group. It’s also nice to see that the Colts haven’t given up on TE Erik Swoope, the converted Miami basketball player, who they believe has shown enough ability to try to develop further as an NFL caliber tight end via the practice squad.
Otherwise, it looks as though the Colts intend to transition undrafted rookie free agent, Tyler Hoover, from DE where he played at Michigan State, to offensive tackle, where he’s listed now. It’s also worth noting that small school sleeper, Dewey McDonald, has been stashed on the practice squad as well.
The practice squad is full of players that were with the Colts throughout training camp and preseason except for QB Jeff Matthews, an undrafted free agent out of Cornell, who was in training camp with the Atlanta Falcons.
It’s not particularly noteworthy, except it likely signals the end of QB Chandler Harnish’s career as an Indianapolis Colt, who remains unsigned. Harnish was a 2012 7th round pick of the Colts, who the team had stashed on their practice squad the previous two seasons and played frequently throughout this year’s preseason.
